It is one of 5 communities in the state of Kansas that is designated a bicycle friendly community via the League of American Bicyclists.  The city has 1 public and 3 semi-private golf courses available for the golfer in the family.

There is an off-leash dog park  for your furry family members.  It is a 53-acre off-leash area that features a dog swim area along with wood chip and natural surface trails through grassland and wooded areas. The off-leash area also includes paved parking and portable toilets. The area is open year-round.

Visit local farmers at the Farmers Market to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade goods, and more every Saturday from May through October.

Shawnee is approximately 15 minutes from downtown Kansas City, MO home to the Country Club Plaza and Crown Center with shopping, dining, and entertainment.  Crown Center and Union Station have several free attractions:  Hallmark Visitors Center, Kaleidoscope, Kids Play area, Model Trains, and Money Museum.
